Adobe PageMaker ®6.5 and 7.0 Getting your files ready to send to us with Pagemaker 6.5 (or 7.0) is made simple by the Save for Service Provider plug-in. This utility collects all of the necessary pieces of your project into one folder. Once you have finished editing your project, open it and select Utilities/ Plug-ins/ Save for Service Provider. Click on the Preflight Pub button . PageMaker will analyze document and the fonts and images it contains. If there is any trouble with the fonts or graphics, PageMaker will report the problem in the same window with a red "X." If the Save for Service Provider utility finds no problems with the fonts and graphic links this will be noted with green checkmarks. It is usually best to check each EPS file included for font usage. To do this you must turn on the EPS font scanner utility. To have PageMaker scan PostScript graphics for fonts: 1 Choose Utilities > Plug-ins > EPS Font Scanner. 2 Click On, and then click OK. 3 Choose File > Print, set printing options, and click Print. A warning dialog box appears if fonts are missing. 4 Choose one of the following options: Click Print Anyway. If you choose Continue and the outline font is available on your printer's hard disk, the correct font will print. However, if you choose Continue and the outline font is not available, Courier is substituted for the missing font. Click Do Not Print. Install the missing fonts on your system and try printing again. Note: If the Proof option is selected, no missing fonts warning is given because the graphics do not print. This procedure helps but is not perfect so please be aware. Font Problems To resolve font problems, click on the Font tab. The window lists fonts used in your document and notes whether if they are installed. Install those fonts that are missing before Packaging the document. If you are using PostScript fonts (and we prefer these or Type 1 fonts), be sure to install both the screen and printer fonts. And one more thing. Do NOT use the STYLE command in Pagemaker (with the exception of underline and reverse) to affect your fonts. In other words do not use BOLD or ITALIC from this list. Use the actual BOLD or ITALIC version of the font itself if possible. Why? Using the stylization tools in Pagemaker causes problems with equipment meant to convert them to negatives. If you are saving your files as print resolution PDF files then proper PDF workflow means stylized fonts CAN be used. If you have further questions about this please call us. Graphic Problems To resolve missing graphic links, click on the Links tab. The window lists all of the graphics including their status. If the status is Missing or Modified, click on the graphic in the list and select Relink. Then locate the missing graphic on the layout as updating is made. If the graphic is listed as Modified, be sure to check the graphic after relinking it as the modifica- tion may produce unanticipated results such as a change in its position. Packaging Once the PageMaker document has been preflighted and all of the supporting doc- uments (fonts and graphics) have been resolved, you are ready to collect all of the pieces into one folder. The Save for Service Provider utility makes this simple with its Package button. Click on the Package button and set your options. Click New to make a new folder in which all of the files will be collected. You must make a new folder FIRST on your hard drive and not on an external disk for this process to work. If you don't, Pagemaker will not let you complete the packaging process. Be sure to click the check box to copy fonts ALL and the check box to Update Links in your source publication before packaging. When you click Save, PageMaker will collect the PageMaker file and its fonts and graphics into the new folder you created. That folder can then be moved to an external disk like a Zip disk or CD ROM. |
